Primäre Weichmacher verbessern die Dehnung und Weichheit und bleiben gleichzeitig chemisch stabil. Beispiele hierfür sind Phthalate und Trimellitate wie TOTM, TINTM und DTDP.
1. DOP/DEHP
Das am häufigsten verwendete Phthalat, um PVC weich und flexibel zu machen. Es findet sich in medizinischen Schläuchen und Beuteln (Blut, Dialyse, Magensonde) sowie in Spielzeug, Gartenschläuchen und Regenbekleidung. DEHP verursacht nachweislich bei Ratten Neurotoxizität und ist ein endokriner Disruptor. Es löst sich in wässrigen Flüssigkeiten auf, bindet sich stark an den Boden und wird langsam vom Wasser absorbiert. Es lässt sich schneller in unpolare Lösungsmittel wie Öl extrahieren.
DEHP ist der Phthalatester des Alkohols 2-Ethylhexanol und weist drei Stereoisomere auf. Es wird normalerweise durch Dimerisierung von Butyraldehyd hergestellt, das wiederum aus Propylen synthetisiert wird. DEHP hat eine relativ geringe Flüchtigkeit und weist eine gute Plastifizierungseffizienz und Schmelzgeschwindigkeit auf.
2. DINP
Dieser Phthalatester wird verwendet, um die Flexibilität, Biegsamkeit und Elastizität von Polyvinylchlorid (PVC)-Kunststoffprodukten wie Vinyl und Kunstleder, elektrischen Draht- und Kabelisolierungen sowie Rohren und Schläuchen zu verbessern. Es wird auch in PVC-freien Formulierungen wie Gummi, Schmiermitteln und Klebstoffen verwendet.
DINP hat eine niedrige Pastenviskosität und lässt sich in der Fertigung leicht verarbeiten. Es weist außerdem geringe Migrationseigenschaften und Witterungsbeständigkeit im Außenbereich auf.
Wie DOP und DEHP wirkt DINP endokrinschädigend und schädigt die Fortpflanzungsfähigkeit des Menschen. Bei Laborratten kann eine hohe DINP-Exposition zu Hodenfehlbildungen und weiblichen Brustwarzen führen. In Kalifornien ist für Produkte, die DINP enthalten, eine Prop 65-Warnung erforderlich.
3. DPHP
Dipropylhexylphthalat ist ein viskoser und öliger Weichmacher mit hervorragender Verträglichkeit mit Polyvinylchlorid (PVC). Es wird häufig in PVC-Produkten verwendet, die ein hohes Maß an Haltbarkeit erfordern, da es eine gute Witterungsbeständigkeit bietet. Es weist außerdem geringere Migrationsraten auf als viele andere Phthalat-Weichmacher.
DPHP hat in unseren Hausstaub- und SPM-Proben den Platz der LMW-Phthalate eingenommen, obwohl es immer noch nur einen kleinen Anteil dieser Substanzen ausmacht. In beiden Matrizen blieben die Konzentration und Muster von DPHP während unseres Untersuchungszeitraums nahezu unverändert.
Ebenso wie DIOP gilt DPHP nicht als gesundheitsgefährdend und wird häufig in elektrischen Leitungen und Kabeln verwendet. Es wird auch zum Beschichten von Plastisolen und Schmierölen verwendet.
4. TOTM
Der Großteil des in vielen Marktsegmenten verwendeten Weich-PVC wird durch Kalandrieren, Extrudieren und Streichbeschichtungsverfahren hergestellt. Diese Folien, Folien und beschichteten Stoffe werden in Tischdecken, Verpackungen, Schwimmbadfolien, Planen, Büroartikeln und anderen plastifizierten Stoffen verwendet.
Diese Materialien erfordern allgemeine Leistungseigenschaften, einschließlich Kompatibilität, Witterungsbeständigkeit im Freien und Flexibilität bei niedrigen Temperaturen. Bei diesen Anwendungen ist eine hervorragende Weichmacherpermanenz nicht so wichtig.
Für diese Endanwendungen sind GP-Weichmacher wie DOP, DINP und DPHP die gängige Wahl. Für einige spezifische Märkte wie die Isolierung von Baudrähten und Kabelummantelungen sind jedoch dauerhaftere Weichmacher erforderlich. Dabei handelt es sich in der Regel um die leichter flüchtigen Trimellitate wie TOTM, TINTM und n-Butyryltri-n-hexylcitrate.
5. TINTM
Eastmans Portfolio an Benzoatester-Weichmachern umfasst TINTM, das als Allzweck-Weichmacher in einer Vielzahl von Polymersystemen verwendet werden kann. Zu den typischen Endanwendungen gehören elastische Bodenbeläge, Dichtungsmassen und Dichtstoffe. Energetische Materialien, pyrotechnische Zusammensetzungen wie rauchloses Schießpulver und Raketentreibstoffe, verwenden energetische Weichmacher, um die physikalischen Eigenschaften und die spezifische Energieausbeute zu verbessern.
TINTM bietet ein ausgewogenes Verhältnis von Kosten und Eigenschaften. Es hat eine geringere Flüchtigkeit als TOTM, bietet eine geringe Migration in die Elektronik, eine gute Alterungsbeständigkeit und kann bei der Herstellung von PVC-Produkten, die für strengere Temperaturanforderungen ausgelegt sind, mit Phthalatweichmachern mit höherem Molekulargewicht wie DTDP und DPHP gemischt werden.

Wie Wasser zum Erweichen von Ton und Öl zum Erweichen von Pech zum Abdichten von Booten, sind Weichmacher farblose, geruchlose Flüssigkeiten, die wichtige funktionelle Zusatzstoffe sind, die dazu beitragen, dass sich Polyvinylchlorid (PVC) biegt, ohne zu brechen, und sich der Form des Produkts anpasst. Sie können auch die Thermoplastizität des PVC erhöhen, seine Glasübergangstemperatur (Tg) und Schmelztemperatur senken, die Viskosität senken und seine Elastizität verbessern.
Eastman stellt eine verbesserte Version seines branchenführenden phthalatfreien Allzweckweichmachers Eastman 168 mit der Bezeichnung 168 SG vor. Es bietet einen einfachen Ersatz für DINP und Tris(2-ethylhexyl)trimellitat (TOTM). Dieser neue empfindliche Weichmacher bietet Formulierungsflexibilität mit einem hervorragenden toxikologischen Profil und geringer Migration in Lebensmittel.
